Black Lives Matter? Who Says?

I’ve been asking myself a question. I’ve been asking it very quietly, because if I ask it out loud, I’ll be mobbed for being a racist pig. Here’s the question: Why is it racist to state this straightforward moral proposition?

All lives matter.

I get the obvious argument. Allegedly up until now, it’s only been us privileged white folks whose lives have mattered. Black lives didn’t matter before. Only white lives. So now black lives matter.

It’s symmetry. Get it?

The problem with this is obvious. Do the lives of 68,000 mine workers in West Virginia who have died from black lung disease since 1968 matter? Their lungs end up black but the victims are white. Did the lives of the 58,220 soldiers who died in the Vietnam War matter? 52,980 of them were white. That pile of white corpses resulting from a senseless, illegal war didn’t seem to matter. Did the lives of millions suffering through the Great Depression, some starving to death, matter? Granted, African-Americans got hit harder. But the white folks didn’t seem to matter enough to keep the predators from crashing the economy again in 2008, then putting everyone in debt up to their eyebrows.

You get the picture. Everyday Americans are endlessly subjected to indignities which degrade the quality of their lives, sometimes consigning them to death. There has been nothing race-specific about such abuse, and white folks have not been exempt.

Class warfare is color blind. To the ruling class — the .1% who have the wealth and power — race, ethnicity, religious beliefs pretty much don’t matter. As long as you have a body and a brain they can put to use in maximizing profit, you matter. When they’re done with you, well, now you don’t matter. Your problems are your problems. We might be deluded into believing that as a nation we’re all in this together. We’re not. You and I are in it together. The rich and powerful are in it for themselves.

Same with the imperial project, the ambitious design to rule the world. As long as you can hold a rifle and shoot straight, color of skin, gender, sexual preferences, etc are not an issue. Yes, gender and sexuality have mattered as a disciplinary and effectiveness concern within the ranks of the military. But the people who decide on the wars couldn’t care less about the details, as long as our military does the job, and makes the world safe for plunder and profit-seeking subjugation.

The point is, no lives matter to the ruling class, except their own.

So back to the question: Why can’t we say ‘all lives matter’?

You’re not going to like the answer.

It’s because ‘All lives matter’ is unifying … and ‘Black lives matter’ is divisive.

Can’t have everyone on the same team. A populous united under a single banner would be an unstoppable force for change, justice, fairness, equality. Slice and dice. BLM vs Proud Boys vs Antifa vs Boogaloo Bois vs NFAC vs Karens … keep everybody in a huge brawl!

Now let’s see where this strategy takes us. If we say ‘Palestinian lives matter’, we’re Jew haters. If we say ‘Russian lives matter’, we’re commie-loving Putin-apologists. If we say, ‘Asian lives matter’, we’re cheerleaders for the Wuhan Flu super-spreaders. If we say ‘All lives matter’, we’re nigger-hating white supremacists.

Divide and conquer. Divide and oppress. Works every time.

We can look to a couple telling examples of prominent spokespersons who powerfully advocated for ‘all lives’ not that long ago.

Fred Hampton

Fred Hampton was a much-admired, highly successful organizer for the Black Panther Party in Chicago. The corrupt white municipal leaders there tolerated him until the very end. But Fred got out of control. He started organizing white and Latino youth groups, normally considered black-hating racists, to fight a common enemy, the political and economic elite of the city. “Through a long and arduous process, he had succeeded in building a ‘Rainbow Coalition’ of working class blacks, latinos, and whites.”

That would get him killed. He was brutally assassinated by a hit squad from the Chicago Police Department in the middle of the night as he slept.

Another example is more familiar. He’s the author of this quote.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

In the last year of his life, Martin Luther King, Jr. called for unity, a struggle against “cruel manipulation of the poor.” The ruling elite knew a bad thing when they saw it. We all sorrowfully know what happened.

How convenient it is that now ONLY black lives matter, when it is only by standing shoulder to shoulder, black folks with their white, brown, yellow, and red brothers and sisters, emboldened and unified, working together to defeat our common enemy, that anything will matter at all. Separated from one another into isolated pockets, protecting our own territory and exclusive interests, only the lives and fortunes of the rich and powerful, the tiny elite aristocratic minority, who purposely and systematically work to keep us disunited and at one another’s throats, will matter.

Which is exactly how “they” want it.

What Red State vs. Blue State Looks Like To An Ant

Red_vs_Blue_Ants_View

Just watching the two major-party conventions and seeing people now excitedly lining up on one side or the other like opposing Ninja turtle teams is both amusing and frightening.  We can count on the talking heads and modern media to regurgitate a story line familiar to devotees of Saturday morning cartoon shows to give substance to our political aspirations.  Unfortunately, the narrative is insultingly simple-minded and mostly a distraction.

With the nation divided into red and blue states, the news robots now have the solemn and putatively critical duty to keep us up to date on any shifting of allegiances and rebalancing of the color scheme, milking any incremental addition of a splotch of blue or dash of red for whatever drama they can generate, before cutting to a commercial break.

What has this got to do with the mounting crises we find ourselves in?
Here is a short list of profound challenges confronting the world:
  • Potential for nuclear war and the annihilation of the planet.
  • Climate change.
  • Resource depletion.
  • Desertification of shrinking tracts of farm land.
  • Diminishing fresh water supplies.
  • Acidification of the oceans and overfishing.
  • Antibiotic-resistant diseases.
  • Accelerating species extinction.
  • Human trafficking and enslavement.
Here is a short list of critical challenges just to our nation:
  • Destruction of democracy and rule by an oligarchy.
  • Historical levels of wealth inequality.
  • Loss of privacy and basic constitutional rights to the surveillance state.
  • Corporate tyranny and plutocratic control of the economy.
  • Almost 50% of Americans living in or close to poverty.
  • As many as 29,000,000 still without health insurance.
  • Rampant social and systemic racism.
  • Crumbling of infrastructure and crippling of our social institutions.
  • Militarization of society and seizure of power by the military-industrial complex.
  • Police brutality and murder of innocent citizens.
Pundits and politicos in service to their oligarchic masters can generate all the wonderful spin they can.  But America's economy has been hollowed out from the inside, and due to a fanatic allegiance to a defective and extremely destructive ideology, the needs of everyday citizens have been ignored.  Anger and frustration mount.  Signs of decline and decay are all around us, behind the glitter and the glitz.  Worst of all, the U.S. as a world power is losing the mantle of leadership.  Its policies have inflicted so much chaos, destruction and death on the rest of the planet, the U.S. is losing its legitimacy and predictably is being challenged by Russia, China, and the non-aligned countries of the South.  Of course, with the myopia and desperation that characterizes a dying empire, what's America's answer?  More chaos, destruction and death.  We are involved in seven wars right now and the specter of World War III looms frighteningly on the horizon.

Everything comes back to what we as a people do to reverse this disastrous course.

Isn't it time to put away the gang colors and actually begin to solve some problems?

Is it possible?  I don't know.

I do know it's absolutely necessary.

Our survival as a country and even as a species depends on it.

Donald Knows Best

It's obvious why everyone loves Donald Trump. He's saying the right things and people finally have someone speaking their minds. He's spewing the ignorant, hateful, ill-informed, and entirely irrational stuff a lot of folks have been thinking but were too embarrassed to say themselves.

Hillary's handlers have her saying the right things too, but there's a reason why she is not resonating. Everyone knows she's a pathological liar, a political chameleon, and a self-aggrandizing opportunist. And those are her pluses. It goes downhill from there. Just like her recent poll numbers.

Granted, Donald Trump isn't the sharpest needle in the haystack.

But the office of president is a team effort. Thus, what Grand Canyon-size deficiencies the master of the comb-over might bring to the job can readily be offset by making the right Cabinet appointments.

Thus, I've taken the liberty of putting together the Donald Trump dream team. They all coincidentally are named Donald, which in a twisted way assures absolute transparency. Whatever flashes of genius come from this synergistic partnership as they lead America into a new age of peace, love, harmony, respect, and national pride, we'll always know:

"It was Donald's idea."

Here we go . . .

Donald Sutherland: Secretary of Bible Studies. I don't know where he stands politically __ he's probably another closet Communist like 99% of those Hollywood liberals __ or what his religious inclinations are, but look at that beard and hair! My goodness, it's enough to make Moses twitch with envy.

In terms of credentials, did you see him in MASH?

What a cut up!

Donald Rumsfeld: Secretary of Known Unknowns. This probably comes as a surprise. But considering the other appointments and being entirely objective about President Trump himself, I truly felt his administration needed some sex appeal.  Granted, at 83, Rumsfeld probably seems like an odd choice, given the availability of Donald "Donny" Osmond. But the fact is, Rumsfeld who was literally a sex god during the George W. Bush presidency is still living up to his libidinous image with the ladies as "yummy Rummy" __ even as his evident decay accelerates. Hey, what can I say? Like the expression goes . . . Some people have just got it, baby!

Donald O'Connor: Secretary of State. So many of our politicos are accused of dancing around the truth. Well, here's a guy who can really dance!  Who can forget his sensational make-'em-laugh routine in "Singing In The Rain"?

Granted, this phenomenal talent has been dead for over a decade. But this is actually an advantage. He won't be able to wreak as much chaos and destruction, or further destroy America's reputation in the world, as his recent maniacal predecessors. Besides, even dead he has more charisma than John Kerry.

Donald Duck: Secretary of the Treasury. Okay okay. I'm stretching it here. A cartoon character? Actually, when it comes to things like the debt ceiling, the responsibility of shaping a coherent budget, the U.S. honoring its financial obligations, abiding by international law, or just handling the press, 'duck' seems to be the operating word.

Besides, after having Timothy Geitner as Secretary of the Treasury, and watching all of the other Wall Street crooks sucking up to the Obama administration, it will be refreshing to have someone looking after our nation's financial interests who comes with no nasty baggage.  Name one major scandal involving Donald Duck, and I'll send you my entire collection of Kajagoogoo posters.

Yo! MC Donald: Secretary of Education in the Popular Arts. Here's a guy with a real solid rap sheet. Successful entrepreneur, acclaimed and respected nutritionist, great role model, loved by the whole family, an all-around good guy. Beyond putting a smile on reporters' pouty little pusses during press conferences, his is the sort of "public face" America needs today across the globe to offset its standing reputation as a warmongering rogue nation. And how can you not love this man? It has been rumored that based on the enormous success of teaching Ebonics in the public schools, this forward-thinking adviser to President Trump will be introducing "Beginning and Advanced Rap" into the curricula of all federally-funded school districts. Every student will receive a free rhyming dictionary, plus a 75-watt signature Kanye West beat box will be provided for every class room.

Admit it.  Isn't this what makes America great?  Everyone else in the world takes all this political stuff WAY TOO SERIOUSLY, whereas here in the U.S. we know that it's all just a TV sitcom, merely another way to market more stuff, an ever-abounding assembly line of products we never knew we needed until we saw them on television and in YouTube ads.

Which, by the way, includes a phenomenal selection of Donald Trump tie clasps, charm bracelets, t-shirts, action figures, and bronze busts for the mantle or dining room table.

Don't wait until it's too late. Once Trump takes the oath of office, the price of this stuff is going through the roof!

Long live the mob!

If my neighbor calls my wife a whore and I go over and punch him in the face,
I am not stifling his free speech. I am violently paying him back for his
crude, slanderous insult.

Free speech is curtailed by governmental action, not by individuals acting
sometimes imprudently or illegally. The right to free speech is not
absolute and is rightfully and hopefully judiciously curtailed by legal
instruments enforced by the state, hate speech being the best example of
properly restricted expression which does not deserve the protection of
constitutional imprimatur.

Individuals may not feel the state has done its job and either challenge within
the legal framework the perceived oversight, or take matters into their own
hands. The deplorable killing of the journalists of Charlie Hebdo is a
heinous example of  extralegal overreaction __ of violently taking
matters into ones own hands.

I don't condone violence. But whether I condone it or not is irrelevant.
Ugly shit has been happening for thousands of years. A lot of people oppose
it and it keeps going on. Some of it is sponsored and promoted by the
very state that we depend on to maintain some sanity in society and the
world at large. Humans are a very violent species, the only one to
inflict pain and death on its own purely for amusement and pleasure.

But with the latest relatively minor incident in Paris __ I contrast the handful
of deaths there with the tens of thousands the enlightened West inflicts
on other countries as a matter of policy, day after day, month after
month, year after year __ we see the epic confrontation between two vast
cultures shaping up.

Isn't that just what theywanted? __ a "good reason" for the world to erupt in
total war. Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, North Korea,
Ukraine, Russia, and China aren't quite enough kindle to get the conflagration
going. But now, yes NOW we've got some serious shit going down! NOW
we've got millions of people in the streets doing the dirty work that
our presstitute media and propaganda machines couldn't quite get right.
Finally, the people will demand total war!

The mob has spoken.

Long live the mob!

VIDEO BLOG: OMG . . . I woke up black!

Boy, was I surprised the other day when I woke up as a black man.

Then while I’m in the other room trying to sort this thing out, I get this message on my answering machine from some guy named Clive Bundy.

"Hey, negro man. You'd be better off a slave. Come to Nevada and you can live in the back of my barn. Think about it."

But the plot thickens.

Apparently my voter registration card has been revoked.

This letter says that to reinstate my voting privileges, I have to provide a birth certificate, proof of U.S. citizenship, blood and urine samples, DNA from my natural parents and at least four aunts and uncles, a copy of a recent utility bill, a notarized letter of commendation from my high school counselor, two color photos taken within the last twenty minutes, a clean bill of health from my doctor showing I’m not lactose intolerant, and a list ten references, five of which must be active members of my local Kiwanis Club.

Finally, it says I also have to pay two outstanding parking tickets for a car I never even owned.  Hmm.

Alright alright, I guess I understand. I mean . . . it’s important to maintain the integrity of the voting process, especially in a democracy, where the voice of the people weighs in so heavily in shaping public policy.

[ Laughter ]

Come on! A little sarcasm never hurt anyone.

But they always say, every vote counts.

And that's why tens of thousands of black people can't vote anymore.

That's why when those dyed-in-the-wool conservatives pine for the good old days, they mean really OLD DAYS __ as in before the Civil War.

I can see where this is going.
Brother, the true colors are showing.
Voting is a constitutionally protected right.
But truth is . . . that’s only if you're white.

Oh yeah!

I am doing what I can to address the destruction of our democratic system.

Without taking back our government, nothing will change.

In my new book, An Unlikely Truth, I offer an electoral strategy which I believe can effectively remove the crooks and liars from office, and begin to restore representative democracy to America.
An Unlikely Truth (Literary Vagabond Books) is now available worldwide in every popular ebook format and as a deluxe edition paperback.

An Unlikely Truth is a critical read for anyone who shares the progressive vision of a more peaceful, more humane, more democratic America.

No . . . THEY DON’T!

I'm finally cured __ I hope.

I used to ask questions like . . .

"Don't the rich care that there are many unfortunate people in America who will go to bed hungry?"

Or . . .

"Don't they want world peace __ a permanent end to war?"

Or . . .

"Don't they want everyone to share in the vast wealth of America?"

Or . . .

"Don't they want true democracy in our country?"

Well . . .

The answer in most cases is:  THEY DON'T!

Who are the 'they'?

You know who they are. They know who they are.

They're not ashamed at all. In fact they're quite proud of their elitist status. It's their imperial entitlement. They're rich. They can afford to not give a shit.

Take the first question. Quite simply, there are many people in our midst __ to whatever degree they mix with us pathetic peasants __ who can just shrug when they see a starving child. Especially if the kid isn't white.

Or they look the other way. "The view of the marina is so lovely from the club house, don't you think, honey?"

How about war? Give me a break! They love war! They make tons of money on war. Best of all, they don't have to fight them. They just wave the flag, conjure up some cartoon version of an imminent threat to our country, our women, our freedom __ whatever __ then send the rest of us, especially if we're not white, off to fight and die to protect their investment portfolios.

How about sharing the wealth? Are you crazy? It's a lot of hard work piling up daddy's money in nice pretty stacks. Why share it? Besides, we all know what would happen. Your typical slob would waste it on beer, lottery tickets, a leather bumper bra for his Ford F-150 Series pickup, the latest X-box, and a new flat panel TV to watch porn.

What about democracy? This nation was founded on . . . right right. Yes, we are a symbol throughout the world of government of the people, by the people, for the people. The rich know a good thing when they see it. Image is everything. So they want to keep the illusion of democracy in America, where everyone gets a darn good feeling every couple years from thinking that by voting they are deciding the direction of the country and shaping a future for their children. But giving people a real say in government? No way! If the majority of citizens could actually make a difference, it would be complete anarchy! Why everyone would have plenty of food, clean air and water, educational opportunities, the best health care, good solid jobs. The U.S. would be at peace and provide leadership in the world to address the challenges of poverty, disease, climate change, wealth inequity, illiteracy, women's rights, proper nutrition, population control. What a nightmare!

Aah yes! It's a relief knowing where things stand. Knowing that it's a complete waste of time to try to discuss the values which we as Americans all supposedly share, but in point of fact do not. Most of us do. But the ones who have ruthlessly destroyed our democracy and now firmly clutch the reins of control over every aspect of our society, do not!

Here's what I've concluded we each must do, and the advice I now give myself every day. It's kind of a new form of meditation. The idea is to get me to wake up, pay attention, stop dreaming like some silly clueless idiot. My newest spiritual mantras . . .

KNOW THE ENEMY
CUT THEM NO SLACK
DON'T TURN YOUR BACK
DON'T FORGET WHO THEY ARE
DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT FORGIVING THEM!

Try it! Say these every day. Repeat as needed for it to really sink in.

There are frankly some very very ugly people in the world. We here in America have more than our share. They're selfish, smug, disdainful, self-absorbed assholes __ sociopaths who don't care about any of the things most people reading this blog care about.

They do have their own set of priorities.

They love war. They love absolute power over others. They want all of the material wealth they can get their hands on. They love getting their way because they really truly know in their imperious hearts they deserve it. They know they're right about everything and it's their right to ignore the filthy masses. But . . .

They don't care about starving children much less starving adults.

They don't care about human suffering unless it's theirs.

They don't care about murdering innocent people.

They don't care about equality and justice.

They don't care about democracy.

They don't care about you.

They don't care about me.

Hate to break it to you.

They just don't care.

[ I'm sorry if my views offend any of the wussy liberals out there. But as Chris Hedges has eloquently pointed out in his amazing book "Death of the Liberal Class", by ignoring treachery you become its ally. ]
